Damage to Aluminum can be
repaired by using the same basic techniques used on other sheet metal
surfaces. However the application to aluminum must be a lot softer
touch. You can severely damage the surface when filing too heavy
with a rough cut file. It is also very difficult to grind because of
the heat factor. When the sheet metal becomes too hot, it will
immediately buckle or raise a big bump. Aluminum is so thin, you
cannot bring it back after too much heat has been applied to the surface.
When filing, even with a fine-cut file, the metal is so thin, you can
easily damage the surface by exerting too much pressure. Your must
use a light touch for all aluminum repairs. NOTE: When body finishing dents or dings on aluminum surfaces, you must bring them in or out close to perfection before filing or grinding. |
